Goodfellas : The TV Series

20 years later, it’s hard to imagine someone denying the quality of Goodfellas. It’s certainly a classic that helped to create a more realistic approach to the genre than movies The Godfather. The Sopranos, for instance, are admittedly inspired by it.
Since Scorsese made the HBO ratings explode with Boardwalk Empire, I guess that tv networks are showing a great inretest at the gangster genre on television. Especially if Scorsese is acting as producer. So it was just announced on Slashfilm that Goodfellas will be adapted as a tv show.
It sounds awesome for a moment, but as Slashfilm writer Russ Fisher mentionned, many aspects that made the original movie great will have to change.
Pros:
-Probably better than 90210 (no offense).
-The pilot will be written by Nicholas Pileggi, author of Wise Guys and screenwriter of the movie.
-Possible involvment of Martin Scorsese? Who knows…
-At least the plot will be solid.

Cons:
-If it’s on HBO or AMC, it’s awesome. If not, be ready for some major dissapointments with the violence and the language.
-No Ray Liotta, no Joe Pesci, no Robert DeNiro.
-It will forever be compared to The Sopranos.
Do you think it’s a good idea?
