Which Directors Could Reboot Batman After Nolan?

Even if Christopher Nolan will soon leave Batman after Dark Knight Rises, it doesn’t mean that Warner Bros is done with the character. If they want to set their Justice League movie in motion for 2013, they need to reboot the series as soon as possible. But which director can fill up those shoes? It’s an important decision. Remember when Tim Burton left the series? We all know what happened next. Let’s take a look at some potential candidates:

Superman Without His Suit

Warner Bros are rushing to get a Superman movie made for summer 2012, because there’s currently a legal dispute over the copyrights with the heirs of Superman’s creators. Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster want to get the rights to Superman’s Action Comics debut.

If they succeed, Siegel and Shuster could develop their own movie series of Superman with exclusive rights to the iconic suit and his strength. If Warner doesn’t hurry up and use these elements as soon as possible, they would only get this:

  • Superman can fly and works for the Daily Planet.
  • Lex Luthor exists.

Now try to imagine a movie in which Superman flies without his suit. It makes no sense! Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel could very well be the last origin story we’ll ever get, or the last faithfull adaptation of the comics. Christopher Nolan is producing because Warner wants to make sure that the movie will be successful enough to guarantee a sequel.

This situation could spawn some pretty weird Superman spin-offs. For instance, we could get a quirky comedy from Lois Lane’s point of view in which Clark Kent is always gone somewhere.

Guys, drop the Joker impressions!

Somewhere, in the midst of Lol cats and EPIC FAIL montages, Youtube also became a platform for impressionists and actors. The problem is that, just like every freakin’ subway guitarist who are playing “Wonderwall”, their repertoire is pretty limited. It usually consists of Peter Griffin, Jack Sparrow, Christopher Walken and Heath Ledger’s Joker.

If you’re an impressionist and you want to get noticed, find something new. Too many are doing the same routines, so less people are paying attention.

Heath Ledger was an excellent actor and his death was shockingly tragic, but there are other great performances out there. The world of acting existed before the release of The Dark Knight, you know?

Movie Philosophy #1: Batman Begins

“If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart.”

I have a few problems with that quote.

First, it’s a simple question of logic. If you walk behind someone, it’s pretty hard to stab them in the heart. I’m no stabbing expert myself, but usually the heart is not located in the back and people tend to notice hands creeping up behind them, especially if they have a knife in their hands. But again, I’m no ninja so…who knows?

Second, I don’t really understand what do they mean by standing in the way of true justice. Ok, say a lawyer defends a really horrible criminal, does it mean you have to creep up from behind and stab him in the heart? After all, he would be standing in the way of true justice, right? So does the judge too, in a way…

But what if the criminal himself has mental issues. What if you’re wrong and he’s innocent after all? Isn’t it a bit presumptuous to say that you defend true justice? Can you really be objective?

I don’t think so.

That philosophy is pretty crappy, even metaphorically speaking…

*UPDATE: Some people don’t have a sense of humor.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the Joker?

As reported by popculturebrain, here’s possibly the first set picture of Dark Knight Rises. As comic books geeks around the world already know, Arkham’s famous prisoners include the Joker. We know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play a smal role. Some say Robin, but let’s not rule out the famous villain.

As you can see, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Heath Ledger do lookalike. Maybe Nolan is trying to get some closure on the story, like he did with Cillian Murphy in Dark Knight.

Anne Hathaway is Catwoman!

Warner Bros has confirmed Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane in Dark Knight Rises. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen these villains, and the last time wasn’t so great (for both of them).

Could Dark Knight Rises possibly be an adaptation of Knightfall?

If so, the title has a totally new meaning because, in Knightfall, Bane breaks Batman’s back, making him crippled.
