20 YEARS AGO : Darkman
I’m cheating a little bit because it was released by the end of august 1990, but Darkman is now 20 years old.

- What is it?
Well Darkman is born out of the failed adaptation of The Shadow. Sam Raimi wanted to do a superhero movie but just couldn’t get the rights, so he had to create one from scratch. It’s funny to think that he would create one of the biggest superhero moviesome years later.
- Is it a classic?
Not exactly, but that doesn’t mean that Darkman hasn’t aged well. Maybe the absence of CGI helped to create a darker athmosphere, reminding both the gothic style of Burton’s Batman and the grace and tragedy of Universal’s old school horror films. Darkman is one of the best superhero movies out there, but will probably forever remain an underrated movie.
By the way, don’t watch the sequels…
