The Strange Evolution of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

Prometheus is a strange project. It’s a big budget prequel of Alien, but it’s almost afraid to openly admit it. Fox invests 170 million dollars on this project, but they don’t mention the Alien franchise at all in the new movie trailer, even if the movie is directed by Ridley Scott!

Let’s take a look at how the project weirdly evolved over the years:

  • James Cameron showed interest in making another Alien in the early 2000’s, but hedropped off when they announced the first Alien vs Predator.
  • In 2008, Ridley Scott mentions that he might do another Alien movie with Sigourney Weaver, but then decides that it should probably be a prequel.
  • In 2009, Fox agrees to create a reboot/prequel. Ridley Scott pictures a story in two parts with 3D and suggests Carl Erik Rinsch, a young commercial director with no prior feature film experience.

Carey Mulligan & Aliens?

In 1979, a young unknown actress got the lead role in a remake of the b-movie “It! The Terror From Beyond Space!”. The movie made her a superstar; her name was Sigourney Weaver.

Apparently, the contenders are:

  • Noomi Rapace (Girl with a Dragon Tattoo)
  • Carey Mulligan (An Education)
  • Abbie Cornish (Candy)
